Thorney How Independant Hostel

A place where you can be assured of a warm welcome.
Yes Thorney How has a lovely homely feel and the staff have a great welcoming touch even when we arrived at 9pm. After putting our gear in our room we made our way to the dinning room which is warm thanks to the wood burning stove and also with plenty of room to relax. There is a good selection of beers and wine available.
So after a good nights sleep the breakfast awaited and this was a great start to the day hot well cooked and good quality ingredients so the full English is recommended.
A great place to stay excellent location good service and superb value for money, will certainly be staying again.

Day 2 Honister to Grasmere

Honister Youth Hostel
Only three other guests staying and just myself opting for the full English it was a quiet but relaxing start to the  day, with rucksack packed it was time to head off for Grasmere. First it would be a road walk to Stonethwaite via Seatoller and then up to Lining Crag and Greenup Edge.
Looking back to Stonethwaite
Path to Lining Crag

When i got to Greenup Edge maybe looking at the map should have prompted me to change plan and taken in Calf Crag and on to Gibson Knot then Helm Crag and in to Grasmere that way,but not thinking lunch was taken at the small tarn at Brownrigg Moss even though i watched people heading for Calf Crag. That can be saved for another day as i had to be in Grasmere before the Gingerbread shop closed.
After walk round Grasmere and gingerbread bought it was a bit early to check in at YHA Butharlyp Howe so best action was to The Traveller's Rest for a well earned pint.

Lakes Trip 8th-10th August 2012

Off i set for a journey around the Lake District.
Lift to train station then off to Windermere and then bus to Keswick, after a bit of shopping at Booths i headed for Keswick Steamers for a trip to Hawse End and up Catbells with the throngs.
So with the crowds and Catbells behind me it was fine walking over Maiden Moor to High Spy.
Now downward to Dalehead Tarn sun beating down what great weather.
Next job was to bag Dale Head and then down again to Honister Hause and YHA for the night.

Hathersage 25/11/11

Early start meet Stuart at train station 6:30am and then two trains later we would be in Hathersage for a walk up to and along Stanage Edge.
The weather was looking good with clear skies promised .
As we made our way we came across the abandoned millstones by now the wind was picking up but with the sun out it was becoming a glorious day.It was only about 10:30 but with the early start it was time for lunch at the base of Stanage Edge.
We then had the short climb up to join the path along the edge.
Forgot to mention joining us on this trip was Brock my Border Terrier who has to stay on his lead due to sheep fetish, here he is with Stu and his new jacket.
Now the wind was really blowing and not a time to look over the edge where the climbers had decided to come up.
Been said before great shapes.
Getting blown around.
Back to Hathersage quick pint then trains home another great day.
